We've launched the planning process for our newest building, the Team Health Education Building. Serving as a state-of-the-art health care simulation facility, the building will be designed to prepare the campus’s 1,200 health science students using a technology-forward, team-based curriculum. The new facility will provide students in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, and the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences space to collaboratively learn with their degree program peers and with students from other disciplines. WSU’s Indigenous Health Simulation Center, housed within WSU's Native American Health Sciences program, will receive $1.47 million as part of a congressionally directed spending request that was supported by Senator Patty Murray, a testimony to the importance of WSU’s work in this space. “This federal investment in the knowledge, wisdom, and healthways of our Indigenous clinicians will help educate our current and future healthcare workforce in the knowledge and culturally proficient skill sets needed to help end the disparities experienced by our Indigenous patients,” said Naomi Bender, director of WSU’s Native American Health Sciences. “We are grateful for this legislative commitment to tribal communities and the health of our people in Washington state, as well as tribal nations across this country who have been waiting and ready to be heard in ways that honor their health, families, and communities.” You can read more health sciences highlights from the recent federal funding package for fiscal year 2024 on the WSU Government Relations blog -- https://buff.ly/4aYaeIZ
